Me is Elephant

I have been knowing the elephants of Zoo Vienna for more than two years – first as a student recording their vocalizations, then as a visitor. I always had the feeling that they recognize me, greet me, communicate with me. As the elephants of Ouwehands Dierenpark of course did not show this behaviour, I thought that my impression is right. And today, I got my last evidence.

It was my first zoo visit after more than two weeks. I was alone in the ele-house. Ele-house cat Lili came directly to me.

When Tonga heard my voice, she immediately (!) came backwards to me and kept standing in front of me.

Then, her daughter Mongu also came and started begging for the first time!

Module Exam in Ethics – We did it!

Today we had our module exam in “Ethics of Human-Animal Interactions”.

For the written part we had to answer 4 questions on different theories und approaches.  For the oral part we could choose our own topic. I did a presentation on:

Of cheeky and curious animals

Yesterdays zoo visit was relaxing and funny. This little fellow was not very amused that I crossed his path without some treat. ;)

Presentation Day

Today, most of us had our presentations in the seminar “Human-Animal-Relationship: Biological (and psychological) fundamentals”. My colleague and I talked about “The role of different types of interactions and sensory channels in HAR”. My colleague focused on farm animals, I focused on zoo animals, of course. :)

Here are some slides:
